At the smile that came across Isobel’s mouth, Hickere felt confident to carry on the conversation. She would make an added point to watch carefully for any body language the mare made, considering she’d be conversing in that manner. Rather than getting distracted and looking off toward the distance or watching the forest, Hickere instead looked directly to her newly met herd-sister. She figured yes or no questions were easiest, since Isobel could merely shake her head with the proper answer and then, whether or not she appeared uneasy or happy, Hickere would be able to tell how she felt about something. It was a learning experience but Hickere had no desire to shy away from it.

“Have you lived with Braylen for a long time?” She asked, head tilting and eyes warm and curious. While Hickere wasn’t sure if Isobel actually cared to know, considering the question may have followed if she could ask it, Hickere spoke moments later. “My sisters and I were invited here by Braylen and Lyden in autumn. I have two, Dickere and Dock; they are in Lyden’s herd.”

Hickere’s grin turned almost mischievous as a glitter shone in her warm brown eyes. “Lyden’s kind but,” she slid her gaze toward the trees as if trying to be sneaky, and for a moment they were simply two girls gossiping as Hickere stepped closer and lowered her voice to a whisper, “Braylen’s handsome, isn’t he?” She giggled shortly after.
