The question.
She’d known it would come up eventually, if she stayed here for any length of time, yet even still, the question made her press her lips together tightly and glance behind her as if to make sure there was no one nearby to overhear. Of course there wasn’t: it was only her paranoia. Yet even still her voice dropped to a near-whisper, and her head lowered until she could nearly look Dogun in the eye. “The stallion I ran from that night is the same stallion who did this to me,” she admitted, averting her gaze again. She neglected to tell Dogun the most horrifying detail of the situation, for it was something she had trouble acknowledging even within her own mind. Dapplegrim... a voice whispered in her head. Then Dogun welcomed her warmly into his home, inviting her to stay as long as she desired, and to her shame, her eyes filled with tears. She was unused to such kindness, however grateful she might have been of it. “Thank you,” the big mare said softly, and her voice cracked. Any thoughts she’d had of stretching their conversation further were suddenly as evasive as the wind. “I’m sorry –” she said, blinking away tears and backing up until her rump was brushing the treeline. “I’m – I’m not feeling well. Hormones, you know. Um, thank you again; I’m just going to go rest for a while.” Then she turned, and was gone. |
Sorry to cut the thread short, but since her due date has passed I figured we should tie it up. I'll get a new thread started soon, and Dogun can meet the little one. :)
