CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.

The Desert Rats to change role
IP: 86.161.76.109

As part of the Army 2020 changes, the famous 7th Armoured Brigade, known as ‘The Desert Rats’, are to re-designate as 7th Infantry Brigade. Although the Brigade will be changing from an armoured role to an infantry role, it will retain its unique red badge depicting a desert jerboa.

To mark this historic event the British Forces Philatelic Bureau, in conjunction with 7 Brigade, has produced an official special commemorative cover which will be released on the 1ˢᵗ December 2014. The cover features images of badges and shoulder flashes used at various times throughout the Brigade’s history. The stamp used is “Winston Churchill” from the ‘Prime Ministers’ special stamp issue. This will be cancelled using a unique BFPS numbered handstamp which includes the famous Desert Rat logo. The cover comes complete with an A4 double-sided insert in full colour telling the story of the Brigade. The cover and insert are presented in a cellophane sleeve to create a high quality souvenir of the change.

Brigadier James Woodham, Commander of 7th Armoured Brigade, said: “We stand on the brink of some significant changes for 7th Armoured Brigade. We are starting the process of transitioning to 7th Infantry Brigade which will stand up in the UK in early next year. This commemorative cover marks this historic transition.”

The covers may be purchased from the BFPS online shop (www.bfps.org.uk/shop) and cost just £6 (UK/BFPO p&p free) for the standard commemorative and £12 for the signed numbered limited versions. They are available to order now on a strictly first-come-first-served basis. The covers are also available by post by sending a cheque (payable to ‘BFPS CIC’) to BFPS The Old Post Office Links Place Elie Fife KY9 1AX.
