Besides, Grai knew how to run on sand. He’d been raised on it after all. His own games of tag with his mother had been up and down the slopes of the dunes.

He really did have a lot of happy memories of his foal hood even with his father’s absence. From what Vesti had told him, Grai hadn’t missed much. He wondered if part of Alethi’s attitude came from the fact that her own father had left. Grai figured he hadn’t come into the life of either girl early enough for them to look up to him like a parent. He watched the two girls. They weren’t sisters, but they might as well have been so.
