STARdust

Stardust could see the outline of the rocks that marked the beginning of the beach. On a normal day, Stardust would just plow down the little rise to watch the tide leave and the distant sun make strange colors on the waves. Today, though, she had her timid sister with her. She’d tried to play with the filly, but first she’d been too big and then she’d learned that the filly was practically glued to Fly’s side.

Her sister’s comment would have made her blush if that were possible.

“I’m sure you’ll get your courage one day,” Stardust said. “Especially once you make some friends with the others. Things are always easier in groups.” Not that Stardust had done much exploring with her own siblings. She could encourage her sister though.

“Stay right behind me,” Stardust said, looking back at her sister. “And step where I step. This part’s a little tricky. But don’t worry, Dad’s made a really good path. It’s just a bit narrow.” Although Soljor had not likely been the originator of the smooth path, he definitely had been using it the most lately. Stardust trotted down carefully, making sure to look back at her sister every so often. When they reached the beach, Stardust waited for her sister to completely catch up. The sun was just starting to turn the sky to a violet.

“Ok, ready for something really cool?” Stardust asked. “Watch the horizon.”
