Grai laughed. It was good that the girls were asleep. He and Soda didn’t get much time to interact, just the two of them. Kids. So much energy. He grinned when she mentioned “alone time.” She gently pushed him before moving away. Grai snorted and shook his mane out before following her.

“Yeah, don’t want to deal with that,” Grai agreed. He trotted after Soda, easily catching up to her. They walked in silence for a bit. The sound of rushing water the only noise in the quiet. It would soon be coated by ice and snow. The cold already set in at night, coming down from the still-snow-covered mountain tops. He reached over to nuzzle Soda’s shoulder.

Yeah, he was grateful for her presence. She’d been a good reason not to just disappear into the tundra for days on end. Dogun had given him a home, but Soda had made it more. He was so glad she’d decided to join him.

“You know,” Grai said. “I’m really glad you and the girls came here.”
