i walk my days on a wire (dogun)

i'm all but washed in the tide of her breathing
Fall has settled into the Inlet, the air carrying a certain chill and the wind brisk and cool against her skin. She feels as though she should be shivering, but she has long grown accustomed to the Inlet's tepid summers and frigid winters. Her coat is beginning to thicken already, giving her a slightly scruffy appearance. At first she had been embarassed when her slick coat had become shaggy, but now she was used to it and knew that it wasn't as big a deal as she had originally made it to be. In a place like the Inlet, a thick winter coat is essential for survival. Nothing to be embarassed about.

With the arrival of fall, Freya notes, comes the arrival of breeding season. Freya had borne Dogun a strong, healthy son the previous year; this year, she hopes to do the same. Although part of her hopes that she will be blessed with a girl, a little princess she can shower with affection and teach everything she knows. A daughter whom she can pass down her own mother's stories and knowledge to, a daughter that will someday teach her daughter the same stories and lessons. The thought of a beautiful filly makes Freya's lips turn upwards into a content smile.

From her perch amongst a copse of trees, Freya shifts, baby blue eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of life. A bit of movement grabs her attention, and she turns her head to get a better look at whoever seems to be approaching. With a start, she realizes it is Dogun! Her heart feels as if it might beat out of her chest, and she suddenly feels elated, as if floating on the highest of clouds. An eager whinny erupts from her sooty lips, a smile blazing its way across her face as she canters towards him, head high and eyes alight. "Dogun!" She says, her tone light and jovial. "How I missed you." She reaches down to nuzzle at his cheek, trailing her lips to his shoulder and nibbling at his skin affectionately. She knows she shouldn't miss him this much; after all, they do get to see each other every couple of days, but in those few days, she finds herself nearly paralyzed by loneliness and a strong, unrelenting desire to be close to her lover once more.

"How have you been?" She asks as she pulls away slightly to look into his face. She does not want to launch immediately into what is on her mind, knowing Dogun might be too stressed. She wants him to relax before she brings up more important matters, so perhaps he will be more receptive to her suggestions. Nibbling his mane, Freya waits eagerly for his response, the ache in her chest slowly fading as she draws closer to him.
