Soljor had learned to let his girls go about. It seemed to be a common mental state for them to disappear for a few weeks at a time after birth. He was hopeful that Arachne and Neilina would return to the herd in time. He just wouldn’t pressure them. He had started to become worried though, as after Sophia had passed the little girl she’d had seemed to vanish as well. Soljor had come across her dead body some time back; cold and several days old. It had disturbed him, especially since their child must have come at some point during her isolation.

Soljor always wondered if he’d done enough for the brindle mare. And then Arachne had also disappeared. He figured she was still around, as he caught her scent periodically, but she didn’t show herself. It was a little depressing. But, while grazing about the outskirts of the herd when he heard a faint call.

A familiar one.

Soljor’s head jerked upwards. Arachne.

It didn’t take him long to find the painted mare. She stood a bit off from two fillies. Soljor’s heart nearly stopped. One of course was Neilina. She was shaping up to be a pretty little filly. In some ways, she was reminding him of his own damn, though different in color. The other… The other resembled Peyton in color, though a bit lighter. And shared the painted features of himself.

Where had she come from? Could it be…

Soljor could ask soon enough. He closed the distance between himself and Arachne, offering a low call to her so he didn’t startle her. He didn’t want to disturb the girls’ fun just yet.

“Arachne,” Soljor greeted, reaching out his muzzle towards hers. “I’m glad to see you’re still here.” His words were truthful. At the least, he would rather have had a goodbye had she chosen to disappear forever.
