Asp didn't know or care about the drama between the Forest lead and the Lagoon. Bad blood between stallions was silly, especially in a dog eat dog world—everything done to get a leg up. And once you were top dog, you did what you had to to stay there.
Asp knew.
He's considered himself top dog for a long, long time.
Which was why he had come back to the Forest just as a storm was breaking over the sea. He found the mare—spotted in ways like Dragonmaw—standing on the rocky shore, her body language reading antsy. He snorted as he watched her for all of half a minute before two gangly somethings burst from the sea foam and wandered their way toward the mare. Asp continued to watch for a moment as one boy spoke, and the other flexed his pecs threateningly.
It didn't sit right with Asp. Two young stallions trying to pick off a mare? If it'd been Asp's herd, he would have sent the two off running before their tiny hooves even knew the beach sand.
Perhaps taking the Forest would be easier than he thought.
But while he was here, he might as well stop the two scavengers from snapping up something that might—eventually--belong to him. And he was not going to share with the Lagoon.
Especially Lagoon yearlings.
He moved into a trot and clattered his way over to the mare and colts, his head held high and his tail stiff out behind him. He wasn't snappy, not yet, because most colts knew enough to scatter when a band stallion approached. Asp made a half circle around them and settled close to the mare, wary of her space (mares could be just as vicious as stallions, he knew.) Asp eyed the two colts for a moment before he said,
“Gotta be pretty embarrassin' to attract only colts, huh, lady,' he asked, with a shit-eating grin.
“Lucky for you, I'm here to save your fine delicacies from the shame of it all.”
And then he let out a laugh, right in the face of the two little boys. Replies:
