FROM THE OCEAN SHE RISES

Leaving the forest had been a bad idea, though she wasn’t exactly thinking clearly at the time. Her hormones, heightened by the beginning of a scuffle between Lyden and the unknown stallion had disrupted her ability for clear thought. Perhaps if she had not made the decision to have a rest from foaling this season, she would not have found her herself in such a predicament. Instead, so keen to keep away from Lyden in case she should cave, she had run. She had made it to the shores of the crossing and then she had run into him. She had not planned it, nor did she protest it but she regretted it as the enormity of her actions began to sink in.

She remained on the crossing in the days that followed, trying to decide her next course of action but she missed her herd too much to stay away for long. Pulling herself back onto the shore, she moved up the beach and began to wander through the trees looking for the herd. To her dismay Azazel’s scent was gone, as were the scents of the 3 sisters. Lyden, Aurelia and Alexander remained at least, though she was still a distance from locating them when her red-marked daughter burst from the underbrush. Jörmungandr breathed in the girl’s scent, and drew her under the crook of her neck
