the ancestor's relic

She had the same eyes as his sister, he noticed now as she turned to look upon him. Given his sister’s history and the strange actions this mare had displayed, he wondered if those mismatched eyes were the mark of the cursed. He does not dwell on what that might mean however and is roused from his thoughts by the mare’s voice. Though he had spoken a few times, this was the first time she had said anything. He voice was rough but he could not tell if it was from disuse, strain or emotion. She told him that she had lived on Salem before, which was both curious and disinteresting at the same.

His caramel eyes narrowed slightly as she continued to say that she could find the herd alone – did she want privacy? If she did, it was not the only thing that she wanted. She asked a favour of him in return for her complacency. That is not the kind of arrangement he wanted but he listened anyway as she continued to tell him about her daughter. ”What does this daughter of yourslook like?” he asked. It would be easier to find her with a description to go on. ”I will bring her to safety but I do not expect anything in return. You may be as compliant as you wish, I will not change you for the sake of an easy life.” Where would the fun be in that?
