Vesti
The funny thing was, Vesti had never really met a stallion who was this fidgety when it came to discussing intimate matters. She hadn’t understood them herself when the instincts drove her and Badr close. Even the ever-present Voice had offered no explanation of the actions. She could recall the bewilderment they both felt when they’d first felt Grai kick.
No longer was Vesti a mere slave to instinct. She understood what happened to her during those months and her question to Orhan was no spur of the moment decision. She’d put thought into this last year with the buckskin and she felt he would be a good father. Even if he doubted himself.
Watching him, he seemed conflicted. He didn’t know what he wanted. Perhaps he was too young.
And here I was just starting to think most stallions would be eager to bed a willing mare. We haven’t known that many stallions. Yes, but they are all so similar. Know one, you’ve known them all. I don’t believe that.
Yes you do.
Vesti ignored the words that echoed in her mind. The Voice was just trying to start something. Vesti focused on the buckskin who was in front of her. Orhan was real. The voice only she heard was not. And what she’d asked of him was also real. The Voice never cared much for her children.
Finally, Orhan seemed to offer the best solution he could. It wasn’t a decisive ‘no’ but it also wasn’t a yes. Vesti would take what she could get. He seemed nervous even about that much. She offered him a smile.
“Of course,” She said. She was a little disappointed it wasn’t Orhan saying those words. “We have time.” Time for him to decide no.
Or yes.
of course i was afraid but i wasn't going to let fear stop me
