Here you can post questions, comments or concerns for the Global Mods. You can email us at lostislands.staff@gmail.com if the matter is private, though please let us know as this address is not checked daily. You are also welcome to @Global Mods in the Discord server, or message us privately, but please be patient if we are busy or not online.

This is where you need to post to officially put yourself on away. If you are going to be away from the site or unable to post regularly for an extended period of time, you may go on away for up to one month, during which your characters will be protected from things like battles, raids and escapes. After this you and your characters will be considered inactive, and you will need to rejoin should you return.

For the sake of clarity, please clearly state 'away' or 'semi-away' in the subject line of your post, and make a new post stating 'back' on your return. While you are away you cannot post in-character, and any in-character posts will be classed as you returning and your characters will no longer be protected from that point.

You may also let us know here that you are 'semi-away', meaning posts from you will be slow, but all normal rules still apply to you.

If you wish to quit the game, please leave us a message here to let us know, though be aware that any characters without lineage (i.e. those who were not born or bred in-game) will be deleted from the Members page. All other characters will be listed as inactive unless you request for them to be deleted.

a note:

Though I referred to the most recent Lagoon raid specifically and it is what finally prompted me to write this suggestion, this isn't the only time it's happened and I don't feel that it's so rare it isn't an issue (though neither is it altogether common).

It's happened to the Lagoon before in the time I've been playing Rade there, for example. He succeeded at a steal, and not 12 hours later Pilar (the mare he had stolen) was raided. The posts had a handful of minutes between then. Yes, some people can write up a post that quickly.

However, not everyone can. And not everyone can forsake sleep and work for something that (typically) took them days to acquire. You need to look at it from this perspective, I think, to realize how unfair it can be. Battles can take literally hours of writing and revising your posts, and often span across days (and sometimes more than a week). Steals tend to take me at least an hour of researching and writing the "riddle", typically followed by 3 days of waiting. And to lose all that effort in a 15 minute window when you're not watching? I'm sorry, but it's a bit ridiculous, and definitely demoralizing. What's the point in stealing or challenging if your effort can be undone in mere moments?

Understand I'm not saying any raid that has been done up to this point should have its outcome changed. They're done and over, some of them for months or even years. But I do think it's enough of a problem for the future that it needs to be considered and changed. Alot of a players are in touch offsite. AIM, texts, etc make it SO easy for us all to connect, and I think that's great! But if there's a dark side to it, it's that it makes things like this too easy to coordinate (and I'm not saying anyone has coordinated yet - but the only way to be certain they won't is to make it impossible, you know?).

Raids have been said before to be a tool to encourage stallion activity. Well, even the herd that indisputably has the most active stallions was unable to protect themselves. So regardless of the valid arguments that have been made, I continue to believe there needs to be a window of time before the mare is allowed to willingly follow.

And the argument of raiding one's own characters is also a very valid argument towards incorporating this. For the sake of an ongoing plot, I had Morrigan's son dip into one of her threads and attempt to raid her. Now, I could have prewritten both posts and ripped her away from Magnus without him standing a chance of blocking. But I would have never done that, and not only because it was never my intention that she leave the Bay. Competition for mares is a great way to keep activity up and the creative juices flowing, but there's no competition when a raid is over in the blink of an eye.

Finally, I would like to offer a specific suggestion as far as time windows go. A stallion has 3 days to block and keep his mare. I personally feel that a mare should have to wait 24 hours before she is allowed to follow willingly. While that may seem absurdly long to some, we have been brought together from different time zones, and I'm not sure anything less than a day can really be counted on to level that difference. 12 hours may be enough, but in the end it's up to the mods to decide whether this needs to be done, and what kind of time window should be applied if they rule in favor.

Continue discussing this by all means - I know the mods value every player's input! - but please, let us avoid making this personal in any way, shape, or form.
