drums of war

save your breath

Warsong quickly sized up this new mare, and she already had an idea of how dangerous she was to her rank. Her eyes flutter as she thinks and her ears sway back, uncertain. By no means was Warsong a hesitant mare, nor was she weak... but she was not sure that a fight was really what she wanted to pick with this newcomer. At least, not out among the open dunes, and Nakita had not directly challenged her. Her blinking ceased, and Warsong relented. For the moment. She saw no reason why to try and send the bigger, thicker mare packing.

Warsong backed and turned away to scale down the dune ridge. Aside from her shaky footing on the hot yellow sand, Warsong moved with purpose and determination. Warsong had been in these dunes for a season and a half now, and by default she already knew a majority of the territory, and chances were, she would lead Nakita straight to shade, food, and water. A couple of paces away, the spotted mare stopped and turned her head to look back inquisitively with ears that point forward at her. Warsong finally broke the silence.. “ You must be thirsty. Come. Drink. “ she said and turned her head forward once more and her ears passively slicked back into a more relaxed position.

In the back of her mind, Warsong knows this stranger has a strong heart by her presence alone. She also knows that this will be a problem. Mares like the pair of them often clash; there was no 'maybe' or 'possible'. The only question was when.

Warsong trudges through the sand; it was annoyance and worked against her. With each step, she silently cursed Olaf for picking such a terrain to call home. Warsong finally reaches compact ground and couldn't be happier, she even kicks her heels when she picks up pace toward the distant oasis, which looked more like a distant haze with the heatwaves that rose from the earth. She slows to a walk once she enters the shrubs and towering palms; she leads the newcomer straight to a scene of epic porportions. A great cluster of tall red cliffs stand tall above them with water that roars down into a large pool of clear water that's only slightly cooler than the very air around them; but the vegetation and the faint breezes are the real heroes to the cooling effect, as they amplify the water's effect on the body. Warsong busies herself with drinking, as well.
