The sorrel was grateful it seemed El Aran hadn’t overheard her inner conversation. It would be embarrassing to say the least. It would be better for everyone if no one ever found out what went on in her head. But your children know, the Voice sneered cunningly. And any future child will learn. It’s only a matter of time then until they find out. Then what will you do?
Vesti ignored the thought. It was clear from the black mare’s pace that something was wrong.
Focus on the present, Vesti snapped to the demon in her mind. I might need your help. You do me such honor.
Vesti was startled when El Aran came so close. There was something in her eyes. El Aran mentioned their conversation the other day. Vesti simply nodded.
“It’s not one I would forget any time soon,” She said. But, El Aran’s previous statement worried her. It was followed by the mention of the Arabian.
That does not bode well,
“El Aran, what happened?” Vesti asked. She lifted a foreleg and danced a little on her hooves. “Is Orhan alright?” There did not appear to be any mark on El Aran that would indicate a fight. At least, not that Vesti could see. She knew that danger wouldn’t have gotten away from the black mare without a fight, so something was off about what she said. El Aran then asked about other strangers.
“I haven’t met anyone other than Carissa,”Vesti assumed El Aran had already met the pretty but deaf girl. She was young and sweet, but shy. Vesti should talk with her again some time. Find out what her story was and what brought her to Salem. Vesti looked at El Aran, her gaze intent. “Tell me what is going on,” Her voice was level and calm. “And I will do what I can to help.” |
