stop and stare

Being stubborn was unfortunately a trait Inessa had inherited from Adelae herself, and partly from Midas as well, but he hadn’t been anywhere near as stubborn as Adelae had been, and unfortunately, Inessa was just like her mother. When she was being a pain about something she wouldn’t let up until she had gotten her way. Although in this matter, Adelae knew that her getting her way was not going to happen. Inessa was upset about it being more about Kazy now, instead of her. And well, Adelae understood but what didn’t make sense was how upset Inessa was about it, it wasn’t going to change, her sister wasn’t going to disappear, so the whole matter was useless to keep fighting. Kazy was nearly a yearling, a few month shy, but it was still strange to have chased her eldest child around for so long, and that was getting crazy. Giving up on trying to track her eldest girl down was the only thing she had left. She only hoped that the girl was going to keep a smart head on her shoulders, and would know to keep herself safe in the commons, where Adelae had last seen her child.

Trying to regain focus, she keeps her eyes on Kazy, reaching down to run her nose against the red child’s spine. Breathing in softly as we stood there. Adelae knew that Dögun wasn’t happy with her, because it had been so long since she had been there, she had been chasing Inessa so much that there hadn’t been time to settle and actually enjoy her time in the inlet. Shifting her weight she looked around, her eyes dull for a moment, wondering if Dögun would find them or not. Adela saw him approaching from a distance, and lifted her nose from their daughter’s back, a soft, cautious smile on her face.

He reached out to her, and she did so in return, her nose seeking his, brushing against it softly, a soft breath letting out. He spoke of being worried and then asked of Inessa. Anger flashed in her eyes, along with misguided frustration. “I’m sorry we didn’t show up sooner. Inessa, well, she’s the reason we weren’t here earlier. She refuses to speak to me, or come here with me. It’s like she’s jealous of Kazdyn, which makes no sense to me. I can’t get her to stop running away long enough to speak to her. I finally just gave up.” Adelae sighed, closing her eyes as she shook her head.

Kazy watched her mother speak of her older sister, how she was refusing to come home and Kazdyn didn’t understand why Inessa didn’t like her. Why she didn’t want her to be family. She felt as if her sister hated her for some unknown reason, if nothing more than just her being alive. She broke from her musings as her father spoke to her. Her eyes lit up first, then a smile broke free on her face. She reached her nose up as high as she could, pressing it into the base of his shoulder, lipping at his soft skin for a moment. “We’ve been chasing sissy everywhere. I don’t know why she doesn’t wanna come here!
