I'm afraid I have some very sad news for you all - Christine's husband Nigel rang me yesterday morning to say she was taken ill last week with one of these aggressive bacterial infections and went into hospital. Unfortunately the illness didn't respond to antibiotics and Christine lost the fight late on Monday night. Nigel said it was not related to the breast cancer treatment which, as Liz, Pat and I saw in December, she had come through so well, just one of those awful random incidents that no-one can predict.
I know many of you will remember Christine, and her son Frank, from lots of Davis Cup ties and will miss her cheerful smile as much as I will.
The funeral is provisionally booked for next Friday morning at Chichester crematorium but Nigel will let me know definite times early next week. They will be asking for donations rather than flowers but haven't yet decided on which charity. I'll post the information here as soon as I know. I'm planning on going to the funeral and will make a donation on behalf of all the Topspin members anyway.
Sorry to be the bearer of such sad news this early in the New Year and I hope 2015 gets better from now on ... I don't know what will happen about Christine's Davis Cup tickets for March yet either - I believe Frank was possibly going so may still decide to join you. Replies:
