At first there was only noise and pressure. It thundered and whooshed past her ears like a raging storm but she was barely aware of it until the crippling silence took hold. She had never experienced silence before and it deafened her as much as the dull light of the forest blinded her when all she had seen before was darkness. She lay there a moment, mismatched eyes blinking away the white spots from her vision. Her young mind could not comprehend the ramifications of what had just happened but it urged her to get up and do....what? She wasn't sure yet, but her body responded without much persuasion from her brain.

With a wet snort, her head raised slightly first and then flopped back down into the soft foliage. This would not be easy. This would be the first of life's many difficult trials. She tried again, throwing what little weight she had into the movement to pull her head up and let her body follow so that, while she was still laying on the ground, she was at least on her front rather than her side. Her balance was shaky at best and this was soon off set further by the sudden presence something warm and comforting against her damp hide. She gave a squeak in response, her head twisting to get a better look at the large creature who warmed her and took the heavy, sticky feeling away from her coat. She did not know yet what a mother was, but she understood that the red and white creature was hers. She knew that she would follow it wherever it went.

The young dark ears twitched at the familiar and comforting sound that her mother produced. She did not understand the words, but that did not matter. Her white legs unfurled and straightened, pushing herself upwards only to stumble face first into the ground. It did not matter. She was closer to her mother now and she would try again.
