I don't recall claiming there was a breeding population in New England... Yet anyway. I was challenging that there were no females ever confirmed in New England. In fact, there have been. Again the definition of "breeding population" will not be met for quite some time, even with females present. We have had dogs in the past track cougars here (Big Cats of Western MA 1948-1956, Pomeroy), but no firm evidence of a female. Not to say one was not, but the cat's Pomeroy encountered sound like Males patrolling territory.
