MAIN EVENT 100 LAPPER AND RETURN OF FIREWORKS TO CITY OF MANSFIELD HIGHLIGHT 2015 MANSFIELD SCHEDULE
MANSFIELD, OH, February 10th, 2015 – The Mansfield Motorsports Park has not heard the roar of a purpose-built racing machine since September of 2009. Its half-mile racing surface has not felt the heat of tires and ground pounding horsepower in just as long. However, this summer, “the Park” is back, with a special event schedule for the main half-mile facility consisting of six events, completed by a sixteen race FWD Compact schedule running from the end of May to the beginning of September on the quarter-mile infield track during a special Friday night time slot.
The 2015 schedule begins with the grand reopening of the facility on May 23rd, highlighted by appearances from not just one but two of the most highly followed series in the Midwest. The Main Event Racing Series outlaw-bodied super late models will compete for one hundred laps on the high banks of the premier automobile racing facility located in Mansfield, Ohio. Scheduled to accompany the prestigious late model series will be the Top Speed Fabrication International Championship Auto Racing (ICAR) Modified Tour with a fifty lap event scheduled between the cars and stars of both their northern and southern division. Mansfield will be the first combination event between the two subsets of drivers for the 2015 season.
The supermodifieds, described as “the best kept secret in American motorsports”, will convene on the speedway grounds for a forty lap feature on June the 20th. The race, sanctioned by the Midwest Supermodified Association by Adkins Glass LLC, will be the first time for the big block winged monsters at the speedway since August of 2008 and the first time the race was scheduled by MSA since August of 2006. The FASCAR modified division will also be there as a support division in order to bring a full open-wheel racing slate to the fans.
The speedway, headed by longtime promoter Kevin Ruic, will put on one of the highest anticipated events in Mansfield for many years when they return on the Fourth of July for one of Mr. Ruic’s highly followed thrill shows. It will be complete with fireworks (dubbed the City of Mansfield Freedom Fest for the track’s accordance with the city in order to bring the community fireworks on Independence Day for the first time in years), the Budweiser Jet Truck, and Wild West Entertainment’s car devouring Megasaurus dinosaur. On July 18th and 19th, the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience will come to the historic half-mile in order to give the non-driver fan base the chance to drive a racecar for a small price.
Sprint cars will come back to Mansfield on August 1st as part of the “Sprint Showdown”. This race will be completed by the appearance of the increasingly popular FASCAR modified division as well as the Vintage Racing Organization of America competing in their vintage modified cars. On August 22nd, MMP will play host to the Main Event Racing Series for the second time in the season. They will be complented with the newly revamped non-wing Buckeye Super Sprint Series. The schedule will be rounded out on September 5th as Mansfield hosts another of its non-conventional motorsport shows. Ten monster trucks, a demolition derby, trailer race, and one hundred car Enduro event will all be part of the slate as Mansfield ends its first year back in the Ohio motorsport scene.
