Yes Cici, and lest we forget, we were told there were no moose in Southern New England. My father and I saw one in the 1960s and were told it was "an escaped horse". Bear were equally as rare, and sightings were met with the same dismissive words. No one in the western hills is surprised at the presence of cougars, and very very few believe they are not here.
