With the day slowly developing around us, I feel somewhat contented standing with the round mare and her even rounder belly. It is nice knowing that I have no obligations to fill or places to be. Instead I am free to enjoy her company and the small talk it brings. She is a mare of little words but, as I feel comfortable in her presence, I see no need for her to elaborate further.
It’s a pleasure to officially meet you I say, mirroring her small, polite smile. Standing in an unhurried silence, I let my eyes wander the grounds around us. Flecks of colour stand against the white horizon; the hides of Dogun and his mares visible now that the early morning fog has lifted.
Seeing Dogun, I am prompted to ask the mare another question though I do so with innocent interest.
Have you been here, with Dogun, long? I query, my eyes still residing on the distant specks of my herd mates. Time has not allowed Dogun and I to bond much, aside from his name and his residence I don’t know much else about him. I had blindly followed him here from the Crossing, a stranger offering me a home, but I like to think of myself a good judge of character as so far Dogun has not let me down.
I look to the grullo for her answer, silently making plans to seek Dogun out and possibly spend some time with him, maybe even do some brotherly bonding. I have not seen much of him since the defeat, a defeat I had blamed myself for. But as time has passed and the wounds have healed, I have figured that if the King was upset with me he would have either said something to me or run me off his land all together.
