What we Don't Know

Kochanie breathed heavily. Mind racing with hundreds of dreadful thoughts. Her tail stuck to her hindquarters, the sweat becoming like glue. Snorts came every now and then and the breath grazed her nostrils.

The environment was becoming a blur. Sounds, sights, all joining together in one fearful haze. The foal stood wandering about something in the distance but she did not care. It was like a plague that followed her, reminding her of the mistakes she made, the sweet innocent, loving times she had all gone and disappeared.

Horses would marvel in her beauty, unmarred pale strawberry pelt, and golden eyes. Now covered in sweat, and completely blind to it all. Perhaps she had always been blind to the world.

Another spoke. A voice different and awakening. Kochanie, spun to face the newcomer, then jumped back a stride away instinctively. She began to shake.

Mother noticed the strange horse long after I did. I daren’t tell mother, she was in her… “quiet” times. She would probably yell. Instead I flicked my ears at the mare. Her coat was dark. But looked like some un ‘ad thrown dust on her, it was speckled with lighter hairs. She looked, kind. Per’aps. She was curious as to Mother’s behavior, per’aps it was strange.

The mare spoke an’ mother awoke with a shock. It scared me. I’d never seen her that way before.

“you must’a given ‘er a mighty shock” I said with a shudder. Mother spoke, voice raspin against her dry, unused throat.

“What do you want” she groaned fearfully. She was so scared, and it scared me too. What was she scared of. She obviously didn’t seem to like this new horse.
