Henes to Chase Third Consecutive 160 Quarter Midget Title at Sandusky
For most eleven year olds, they are content with Mario Kart as far as involvement in motorsports goes. For third generation driver JJ Henes out of LaGrange Ohio, however, the bug goes so much deeper. From hanging around the supermodified pits with his father and Midwest Supermodified Association veteran Jon Henes to his own involvement in the karting ranks around different Ohio racetracks, JJ is breaking the mold and collecting some impressive hardware while he is doing it.
The driver of the #36 Brian’s Automotive/4th Turn Crazies/Greber Machine & Tool quarter midget has amassed a collection containing three 120 quarter midget titles as well as two 160 quarter midget championships upon the infield dirt track at the Sandusky Speedway. These titles, plus his 70+ event wins between Sandusky and the Fremont dirt and asphalt tracks, make Henes a track favorite for the title heading into 2015.
2015 is poised to be an even bigger season according to the five year kart veteran. He plans to take his kart to another 160 QMA title at Sandusky, as well as visiting Fremont as his schedule allows. Unlike the stars and cars of the higher ranked divisions, however, JJ gets to race all year around due to the small stature of the hotrods he competes in. The quarter midgets also get to race indoors at tracks like the BMI Arena in Versailles, Ohio and the Henes crew, with backing from Hot Wheels Haven and Perfection Fabricators, is allowed to dominate year ‘round.
The future looks bright for any racer that has five titles in as many years racing. However, it looks ever better when that racer is part of a supermodified dynasty such as Henes Racing. Father Jon and grandfather Ron Henes both are supermodified all-stars, winning several events spanning generations in the #36 winged roadsters.
