He felt triumph as his hooves land against the bay stallion’s flesh. A grin curled on his mouth and, when his hooves landed, his head was raised – as was his tail, his gait almost a prance. As always with young boys, particularly those such as Nephilim, his eyes went seeking any horses that may be curiously watching. He sought the crowd in hopes they would be looking upon him admirably. Yet playing to the crowd wasn’t what he should be doing. It was instead his opponent who should have had his full attention.
Nephilim finally managed to pay the thin, agile bay some mind when he spoke. He spoke two words which Nephilim thought he’d never heard before and it brought his mind to collapse into confusion. His gold gaze swung toward the stallion and a highly intelligible, “Huh?” came out of his mouth. Head turned and ears pushed forward, toward the stallion, Nephilim balked when he noticed he was starting to move again. Not far nor fast enough, for the stranger’s hooves still gave a glancing blow on his thin leg, the worn edges of his opponent’s hooves scraping against the skin. The pain, however slight, caused Nephilim to pull his ears against his poll, whites flashing as his eyes rolled and he moved away, out of the line of any following fire. After two, three steps, he realized he wasn’t being trailed or chased down and therefore made a slight half-circle before stopping, off just a little to the left of his random opponent. A loud breath of air huffed from his nostrils and his ears flicked forward, eyes narrowing. “What?” His tone was saturated in the attitude only a young, dumb boy could have. “Had enough old man?” A bit of a smirk slipped up his mouth, one side tugged higher than the other.  |
