History in the Making as Buckeye Super Sprints Prepares for Sandusky Season Opener Saturday
The Buckeye Super Sprint Series is facing a new season with an extensive makeover for 2015. When the stars and cars enter the hallowed grounds of the series' home at Sandusky Speedway on Saturday afternoon, both the cars and stars will be changed forever. With many of the stars like Kevin Mingus moving on to other divisions, it leaves the door open for a lot of rookie talent to shine through the veil of veteran drivers. However, the most important offseason change involves the cars themselves.
The Buckeye Super Sprint Series has undergone a transformation from a winged 305 cubic inch division to a much more open configuration. This involves the removal of the monstrous top wing as well as the opening up of the motor rule. The new rules package reflect the growing amount of 360 and 410 sprint car interest in the series and makes these drivers' competition within the series much more feasible.
These changes come on the heels of a general change in attitude towards the more open rules packages of old. Series owner Kevin Jaycox states, " We felt that the Buckeye Super Sprint Series, as a whole, deserved a more prominent position in the overall hierarchy of motorsports. Following a meeting with our drivers and team owners at the Sandusky Speedway during the offseason, we decided that the move to this rules package would guarantee the continued great racing that we see in this series."
The sprints will also be accompanied by the modified division, Digital Yalo Ohio Stocks, Milan Automotive Street Stocks, and the Melinda! Melinda! Hobby Stocks. This race will also be the season opening event for the speedway as last week's event was postponed due to the recurring rains that plagued the Midwest. The pit gate will open at 3 pm, with hot laps starting at 4. Qualifying will kick off at 5:30, culminating in the official start of the racing season at the Sandusky Speedway at 7 PM.
