Dance to a Faerie's Fiddle

Taytim

The little mare hesitated a moment from the stallion’s coarse response to her. He came across as broken and lonely; possibly so far as to say ‘miserable.’ Her smile fell and she reached forward once again, this time more in concern than anything. From her point of view, horses were meant to be with others and when one turned so forcefully away from company, it was cause for concern. However, she kept in mind that this man could simply not want her company. It was entirely understandable, free-will was what it was and she was not one of those who forced the unwilling to endure her company against their will. It was only fair, why be around someone when neither party desired each other’s presence.

Her sunny demeanor cooled and she stood with seriousness. Playful natures, she found, could be set aside for seriousness when the times and conditions presented themselves. His words did make her chuckle slightly.

That won’t be a challenge. I honestly don’t know.” Her amusement faded but the kindness in her voice did not. A soft sigh escaped her as her mind trailed back to her friend at the Peak. Once again, guilt nipped at her insides as she thought again of choice, free-will, and company. As she had spoken to a friend about, it should always be a choice to spend time in the company of another. Her dark eyes looked back at the stallion she stood beside. He did seem nice enough, and his pelt shared stories with her that his words would not. Even though she wanted to get to know him and learn what kind of spirit he had, who was she to demand it.

Mimicking the sounds of the stallion, she sighed, though her’s was merely the release of breath that came when a mind was made up.

Well Sir No One Will Know Me.” Her voice was still kind, light, and teasing. “I do not have much to offer. I have no land, and no home. Should you need something from me though, you have my name and my respect.” She looked at the falls again. “Though food is scarce here, it is a wonderful place to feed your mind and think.” She smiled again, politely bowed her head and stepped away from the stallion, slowly walking back to the falls, letting her mind return to her previous thoughts.
