saving grace

Fly sighed heavily as she raised her head up from the thick snow that covered the landscape. She had just pawed away a large hole to find the frozen ground in hopes of stiff yellow stalks of grass to eat upon; but found nothing. It had been a few days since she had gotten anything good to eat and the thought of leaving the Island for the Commons was heavy upon her mind.

But she couldn't.

Lifting her head high, the bay mare looked around in hopes of seeing a flash of gold. Her daughter; Peyton, had went missing a few days ago and although Fly had tried to follow a harsh snow storm had forced the mare to seek shelter and once the storm had passed there was no trace left to find of the buckskin young mare to follow. Head turning, she looked over to her friend's daughter; Hollowshank. She wasn't sure where Rattlebone had went or any of the others; but Fly had taken it upon herself as lead mare and as a mother to take care of the young mare.

Giving a soft call to the girl, Fly turned away and began to make her way through the deep snows away from the deeper part of the Island and towards the shores. It wasn't often that Fly had drifted there but lack of food was making her wander farther and farther away from the small hot spring near the caves. It was their only source of water during the winter months and Fly was rather found of staying near it. But with no food, water would be useless on staying alive.

As she came closer to the shores; the bay mare began to pick up the salty scent but something else mingled with it. Raising her crown the draft cross peered out across the flat table top they stood upon of rock towards the drop of the rocky incline where the shore met the water. It wasn't long before the pale spotted form of the stallion emerged and Fly felt conflicted for a brief few seconds.

Welcome a new lead stallion; or try to defend the land in case Soljor returned?

A call rang out from Fly as she stood there, her voice echoing off the silence snow covered land. She would wait where she stood for the stallion to join her and Hollowshank and hope that he wasn't some young hot blood stallion that thought he had the power to drive her and the young mare around. If that were the case; he had another thing coming.
