The season was slowly starting to grow old, but the harsh winds of winter continued to blow cold and fierce. It was the glowing embers of rage in the mare’s body that had kept her fueled through dead of it and continued to fire her through the days. Each sun that set and rose again the evidence became more clear on her body. That Lagoon son of a bitch cursed her with a bastard of his making. The disappointment and anger had raged within her. She had failed in her life, vowing at a young age only to give birth to kings. Now she was carrying the spawn of an encounter she did not have strength at the time to deflect. Her promise of revenge had kept her alive and able-bodied. The same promise could not have been made for the child she bore within her. Her foal’s fate hung loosely in the air.

Emotions and aimlessness made the friesian move back into the sea and towards shores that were not of the crossing. There was no place for her there. Heavy hooves pounded on the shores of the bay as she pulled herself out of the waters again. This land stank of stallion and for a moment the rage blinded her again. Heavy breathes were expelled from her before she reminded herself that not all men were rapists, thieves, and mutineers. There could be some worthy of loyalty in this world still. If not, this was a place that did not yet smell of a strong herd. Her black ears flattened for a moment. This was a chance of opportunity.

Shaking herself free of the cold water, sending it into the winter wind, Amaranthe cantered into the land. Fear of attack were non-existent. If she could not fight her way out, how did she believe she could fulfill her desires. If the stallion who claimed this land were honorable, she could comprehend an alliance and partnership. Not everyone was out for blood, and she only gave birth to kings.
