Very interesting article,reinforces what I thought all along.I read an article in the Country Gazette for our area. A black bear was sighted in Wrentham on the 14th.
They made an interesting graph of the number of black bears in Mass. over the last 40 years. They were NEVER spotted before the last 15-20 years or so, now it's not so uncommon.In the 70's it was estimated that there were about 100 in Mass.90's 1500,05-3500, and in 2011 between 4,000 and 4,500 bears!This may one day be true for the Mountain Lion! I would also like to inform all the followers of this board of a most interesting show I saw on TV last night on Animal Planet called Cannibal In The Jungle.Don't want to ruin it for anyone so I will just say that it was about a bird enthusiast who went to Indonesia to see if an owl which was on the extinct list actually still lived as someone had claimed to have seen it.I was struck at many times through out the show about how similar it was to the "extinct" M.L.in our area.At any rate - whether you believe there are M.L.'s here or not - the show last night was an extremely interesting documental of Dr. Timothy Darrow's journey to the jungle and all that took place after.I must say I found myself intrigued by this story. It will no doubt be on again and I highly recommend it. Replies:
