Hello there, I am looking for any photos or information your members may have regarding the deployment of 1st Battalion The Royal Fusiliers to the Royal Signals TAVR Centre at Bromley in Kent during the fire strike of November 1977-January 1978 Operation Burberry.
I was serving in the RAF Police during the fire strike and we were deployed to the TAVR Centre to operate the 3 Green Goddesses there from early January until the strike finished a few weeks later. I cannot remember if we took over the vehicles from your Regiment and so was wondering if anyone had any dates or photos from that time to help me get my vehicles archive up to date. Unsure of what happened to the 1 RRF markings on the front of 10A, they were not there in January! A yellow square had been painted over the markings, which makes me think there might have been another unit there after the Fusiliers and before the RAF?
I should mention that I now own 10B PGW 163 which was used by the Royal Fusiliers before us. I have been sent a photograph of members of HQ Coy 1st Battalion at Bromley which looks like they are in front of NYV 759 which was 10A. This photograph has been taken from ‘The Fusilier’ dated June 1978.
I would appreciate any help you could give and if any ex Fusilier who was deployed on this operation and lives local to me (Altrincham, Cheshire) then they are more than welcome to a reunion with one of the vehicles they crewed and operated all those years ago.
