everyone is a monster to someone

“You seem…” he paused, thinking on the right word, “knowledgeable, and I was curious.” It was good, he thought, that she seemed amiable enough company (or at least that for the next three seasons she would be on his side) and yet, was a strong force to be reckoned with. That, he imagined, meant if worse came to worse and something were to happen to him, Amaranthe would be more than capable of handling the situation. He imagined, paired with Fly, the herd would not need to worry if he were to somehow succumb to elements or a stallion who decided to challenge his territory. Though, thinking of Fly, Nephilim briefly wondered how the two head-strong mares would get on.

He didn’t pause over the question for long, answering her instead. “One fight.” He said, thinking of the bay stallion in the Falls. “A very brief one, more of a scuffle than anything.” When the challenge had occurred Nephilim hadn’t realized the stallion was just testing him rather than giving him an all-out beating, now, however, he did. Any other scuff or mark on his coat was a prize awarded by the dam that’d birthed him and nipped or kicked at him quite frequently. Yet, considering he’d like nothing more than to burry that memory and any associated with her, he didn’t comment on it.

He paused and wondered if it was a wound to his pride to ask what he wished to ask next… but, Nephilim knew there was no way around it, they both knew he didn’t have much when it came to battle experience. “During the time you’re here, any tips you could give me on fighting would be appreciated.”
