CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.
Messages posted in the last 24 hrs. are in White.

BERWICK DETACHMENT NORTHUMBRIA ARMY CADET FORCE

An announcement was made by Buckingham Palace on June 2nd that Berwick Detachment, Northumbria Army Cadet Force was to receive the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (the MBE for groups). The detachment of 34 cadets and four adult instructors had been nominated for the award by members of the local community in recognition of their voluntary work in aid of local and military charities. On average, over the last six years the detachment has raised £5000 a year for charities including ABF, The Soldier's Charity, Combat Stress, SSAFA, Royal British Legion, BLESMA, Help For Heroes, Berwick and District Cancer Support Group, Barnardos Mossaic, RNLI and the Christmas Appeal. Members of the detachment are pivotal in supporting the Berwick Rotary Club in providing a day of sports for people with learning and physical disabilities. Spirit of Sport has become a highlight of the volunteering calendar and the work of the ACF on that day enables up to 130 participants to enjoy a day of activities tailored to their needs. The detachment also support a number of local calendar events, some at very short notice. One such activity was to take part in an emergency fundraising event to help to raise money for local families whose Christmas hamper money had been stolen by their agent. The detachment have organised coffee mornings, sponsored events, Zumbathons, discos and street collections to raise money for others. The citation on the Queen's Award certificate is that the detachment has been recognised by the Queen for going over and above cadet duties and holding military and local charities at the heart of their volunteering activities.

The presentation of the certificate and award was made by Her Grace, the Duchess of Northumberland on June 18th at a Garden Party for volunteers and carers.
