I assure you, there were no visible claws. Perhaps what you're seeing is a shadow. We looked very closely at the 3 or 4 prints we could see and none had claw marks. I would estimate that it was easily 4" or more across.

My friend and I intend to go back when it's lighter out and I will be more prepared to document it.

As soon as we got back to our vehicles, I started Googling and found this article from 2 years ago.

The bike trail they mention is where we were riding. I didn't want to give up the location, but I'm very certain that it wasn't a dog or coyote.
