He thought he should let them go. Nephilim knew that Firethorn was only being kind, inviting him to accompany them, and he should do the kind thing in return and bow out so they could have time to explore together, alone. But this were one of the first few good interactions he’d had once he’d started making an attempt to be social, and Nephilim wasn’t ready for it to be over. So, out of selfishness, he smiled after a moment of obvious thought. “How else are you two going to see the best parts of Crossing?” He said, and if he’d had eyebrows he might have raised them, shooting an expectant glance toward them both. “Come on, I’ll show you places that visitors don’t often frequent.”
It was easier to go to the three main clearings because those were where most of the horses congregated and that seemed to be the purpose of Crossing Isle. But for one who dwelled here and did not call the marshes of the Lagoon or the heights of the Peak home, there were many other places to poke about and explore. Nephilim had a mind to show both Foxglove and Firethorn these places, and probably to stay away from the heavily crowded areas, just because a few things that Al-Sarim had said were enough to make Nephilim both confused and slightly nervous of another stallion crossing their paths.
By the end of their adventure, however, Nephilim would bid them goodbye before they wandered back to the Falls to see where their father had gone. He may have spent time playing about with the girls but he was still somewhat apprehensive of their father – an older stallion who may likely drive him away.
