CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.

From: Brigadier P A E Nanson CBE The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers
Area Colonel Lancashire Joint Services Command and Staff College
Shrivenham, Swindon SN6 8LA

1st July 2015

Dear Lancashire’s Fusilier,
I am delighted to have been selected to become Colonel of the Regiment, a position I will assume on 1st October this year. Thank you very much for all your notes congratulating me on my recent selection for promotion – they all mean a great deal to me. On the downside, that selection means I will have to handover as Colonel Lancashire, a post I have held since 2011. Colonel Jon Swift will assume that post today, the 1st July, and I can think of no better man to take you forward. Being Colonel Lancashire has been both a huge pleasure and a privilege for me and, being a son of the county and having had a grandfather who served in the Lancashire Fusiliers, it has been a great personal honour for me to lead you over these past years. And you in return have achieved amazing things.
You have promoted and sustained the Fusiliers in Lancashire. You have embraced fully the ‘One Regiment Approach’ and the strong family spirit – Regulars, Reserves, Cadets, Schools, Band and Association – has been a constant theme. You have stepped up to the mark, be it saying farewell to our fallen, taking care of our sick, wounded and bereaved, or marching to save our battalion. You have worked tirelessly to recruit our remaining battalions and the North West continues to produce more new Fusiliers than any other area – before long we will have a Fusilier Company in Bury again! And you have ensured our proud heritage endures through support to the outstanding museum, and through your turnout at countless regimental events - no one who was there will forget Gallipoli 100; it was a fantastic achievement.
There is still much to do and as we look forward, the only certainty is that the future will remain uncertain! The best way to combat that uncertainty is to ensure we continue to promote an area built upon a solid foundation of trust and support, underpinned by a strong Regimental ethos. Nowhere is that ethos more evident than in Lancashire and I am confident that you are well placed to meet whatever challenges lie ahead.
Thank you for your support and your friendship over the last few years. Provide that same support to Jon and, I know, he will do you proud. I wish you god’s speed and the very best of luck for the future.
Yours ever,
Paul
