it’s another wolf bite (Cam & Idelle)

“it’s another bad dream”

Hooves dug into sand, and water ran down his legs as he made his way up the beach and headed inland. Sandman had just returned from the island of Salem, and there, he had spoken with two that had changed him greatly. And though his heart still ached (and likely always would, because the damage he had done, and the damage that had been done to him, these were deep and unforgettable, but maybe… Maybe not unforgivable) he found it easier to breathe, somehow.

He had come to beg the forgiveness of another that he’d hurt. The memory of the words he’d snarled at her, meant to cut deep and hurt… The loss of Bright Eyes had made him so… So angry, so full of grief, and he had lashed out at others, thinking that life was so unfair… She should be here instead of you. How could he have ever said such a thing. No-one deserved to die as Bright Eyes had. And, the black mare, she had never done anything to hurt him. She hadn’t deserved what he’d done to her.

It made him feel sick, sick to his very core. He trembled and drew in a shaky breath. There were no words, nothing he could do to take back what he had done… He had to see her though even if she only gave him a moment. He needed to make sure she was okay… Stop lying to yourself. You’re just being selfish, making sure she’s okay so you don’t have to feel so guilty. Still, Sandman wasn’t free of that dark and cruel voice. Maybe it was a part of him, one tht he’d never be free of.

If that were the case, then maybe it wasn’t a bad thing. The things he’d done… He didn’t want to remember them, exactly, he just… Never wanted to go back to that empty, angry, heartless creature he’d been when he had lost himself. His lone ear flicked forwards as he heard the familiar rumble of the waterfalls in the distance. He had caught the dark-skinned mare’s scent in the area, and hope that she was still close-by. There was no-one around. Now that the weather was getting warmer, he assumed most would linger around the falls and the river in an attempt to keep cool. He was just considering heading that way to continue his search when he heard movement on the other side of the tree line, thick with foliage. As he turned, the movement stopped and he tilted his head, scenting the air. “I won’t hurt you,” he said softly, hoping to draw the stranger out into the open.
