it would seem these monsters are men

all I knew were the stories I was told of monsters
and valiant men sworn to slay them.

She smiled and relaxed as soon as he told her it was alright that she was here visiting the Ridge. Her smile grew wider after he’d complimented her, a soft laugh falling from her mouth. “Thank you, Jabberwocky.” She said his full name, at least first, before she might become more comfortable in his company and resort to calling him by his shorter moniker. It was quite a name, she had to admit.

She had not met someone as exuberant as Jabberwocky was, and Abigail quite enjoyed his company. He inspired the same form of mirth in her, enough so that she couldn’t keep the smile from her lips as she started to move alongside him, her little legs picking up in a happy gait. Her ear flicked toward him (dark where the rest of her was white, such a sharp contrast) and her blue-eyed gaze soon followed as he asked about her. What could she tell him? She thought of the events that led her to run here, to this chain of islands, and to her life even prior to that. All of it was so different than what she had now.

But she was most excited about the destination, considering he’d said it was a secret. Abigail was excited to see what this secret could be and she laughed as he said he wasn’t going to tell her until they got there. “You’re a tease! Give me a clue at least!” She playfully said, and, still with a smile on her face, looked forward once more. “I came to the islands in early autumn, last year, and Atlantis was the third island I came to, the first I stayed at. It reminds me of home.” Her smile softened as her gaze appreciated the landscape that, even though it was different, was still very much like the tropics of home. “I met Braylen shortly after and was happy to be accepted into his family. He’s told me he has a very nice family, though I’ve been unfortunate to not meet them yet.” It was a quiet place, Paradise was, but Abigail didn’t mind it too terribly. There was so much to do! Little did the young mare know what was occurring while she was here in the Ridge, having fun with Jabberwocky. Little did she know that when she returned to Paradise later that day she’d smell the thick cologne of a strange stallion and bolt away from Atlantis in search of Braylen.

“I feel so… free here.” She sighed. Back home she’d been under constant surveillance, never able to run off on her own whims and see the world she so desperately hungered to see. Her gaze went back to Jabberwocky. “What about you?” She asked him, smiling. “Were you born here?”

it would seem these monsters are men
