it would seem these monsters are men

all I knew were the stories I was told of monsters
and valiant men sworn to slay them.

You look lost, darling.

Young, small, nearly all white with only three small patches of blue, Abigail was the picturesque vision of a sweet, innocent little girl. Yet Abigail was not so innocent, though she certainly was sweet. Abigail knew of nightmares, and she nearly shivered to remember the one – the long scar that stretched from brow to cheek, his pupil a milky blue. He was more a monster than any and in facing him, Abigail became brave. She remembered the strong-spoken stallion who killed the one with the scarred face, and the red-haired brute who’d taken her from him. Passed from stallion to stallion and yet… not exactly for the same reason a mare would be passed about here. Abigail’s life had been different.

She’d once been frightened of her nightmares… but now she knew what they were and in that, she found courage.

Abigail stopped short in the sand, sand which had once shifted beneath her hooves every morning and night, and watched the stallion who’d stopped her in her path. “You remind me of someone.” She said, blue eyes searching his face, voice soft. But was he like the scarred face stallion, or was he more like the second, or the third? Abigail did not express fear, nor did she express fight… instead, she was curious. She had been taught many things in the past year and her perspective of the world seemed ever-changing as new information was fed to her.

“I’m not lost. I’m searching for my friend and hoped you had seen him, as you were the one who took this place in his absence.” Did he even appreciate it? Did he know the beauty of Paradise as she had learned it?

it would seem these monsters are men
and it would seem these men fear their own monsters
