jökulrós

Jökulrós could be reclusive sometimes. She didn’t intend to be but the wonders of nature often distracted her from being social. She could easily get lost in her own thoughts, marvelling at her surroundings for hours on end. It was for this reason, that she hadn’t mingled much with the rest of the herd. She knew everyone by name and sight but she’d never taken the chance to get to know them as well as she could have done by now. Even her mother saw very little of her these days.

Björn answers her question with a chuckle and proposed that perhaps the water sprites didn’t know his future and that he didn’t either – but who ever really did? The unknown was exciting but the thought of knowing the future did pique her curiosity and she questioned him further. His answer was an interesting concept and one worth living by – to live for now and not worry about the future. While there was sense in that, it was always worth planning ahead too. To Jökulrós, who often got lost in a moment though, it made perfect sense.

The slate coloured boy rolled onto his front and the tri-colour girl lifted her head as he rose. It almost pained her to see him abandon his relaxing soak but she supposed all good things must come to end at one time or another, otherwise they would become mundane (a concept she hadn’t fully grasped yet). Björn questioned if the sprites were watching them right now and her gaze travelled along the water’s edge, investigating all the nooks and crannies that the water sprites might be hiding amongst. “Of course. Apparently we are very interesting to them but they are timid things.” and then turned her gaze back to rest on the bald faced boy. “The stories say that if you ever catch a glimpse of a water sprite you are entitled to make a deal with them. In exchange for a lock of your hair, they will bless any water you come across to always be fresh and clear and to never freeze nor evaporate.”

When he moved up onto the bank, shaking the water off, she followed not far after. She gave a soft laugh at his joke, closing the distance between them. ”I think it looks cute but perhaps we could give them your whole mane instead of just a lock.” she chuckled, reaching out to try and tame it as best she could.
