everyone is a monster to someone

His gold eyes slid to Amaranthe after she’d sent Tithe toward the froth of the briny, cold saltwater. The name was that of a stranger, Nephilim didn’t recognize it, but he didn’t hesitate to reply. “Consider it done.” He did not need to ask Amaranthe what it was that Fallo had done to her, though he wondered. His gaze reached for where they could still see Tithe and he felt what he’d already suspected must be all but true, especially if she wanted Tithe to have a chance to harm the stallion she’d named. It made him respect her even more, because in spite of what circumstances had occurred to bring Tithe into this world, Amaranthe did not seem to blame him.

If only the cream mare had done the same.

“You’re good to him.” He said quietly, still watching Tithe but speaking to Amaranthe. He might have been overstepping but pushing forward with assuming what had happened to her, but the words had crawled from his mouth as though merely a thought rather than something he’d intended to say aloud. His gaze flashed to her. “He’ll be a lot better off with your guidance.” Not that Nephilim hadn’t become something without his dam actually giving a shit about him, but it hadn’t been an easy path and there were still difficulties. “Take it from someone who knows firsthand.” He added quietly after.
