Lorain County Speedway presented another Family Fun Night / Kids Night on Sat. August 8, 2015 as summer and the 2015 racing season start to wind down. Tonights kids festivities included free bounce houses, face painting and a bike race on the track. Lorain County Speedway will be taking a break and racing will resume here on Sat. Aug. 22.
Taking home feature wins tonight were Dan Smith in the Chargers division, making it six feature wins so far this season. Mark Haury won his first Crate Sprint feature. Grand Nationals current points leader and defending champion Jeff Fade Jr. won his fifth feature of the season. In the thirty lap Modified feature it was T.J. Stineman, winning his first feature of the 2015 season.
The Chargers started off the evenings feature races. Doug Voldan was the early race leader from his outside pole starting spot. Jarod Tomlinson took the lead on lap four followed by Dan Smith and Brandon Halcomb. Halcomb would exit the race on lap seven. The caution flag waved on the next lap to sort out the line up as Michael Parks was sent to the pits for rough driving. On the restart it was Tomlinson and Smith. Smith took the lead in the closing laps and went on to win his sixth Chargers feature of the season.
Up next was the Crate Sprint twelve lap main. Mark Haury led from the pole followed by Chris Gibbs, Xavier Howard and Dylan Watson. Haury had nearly a half straightaway lead over points leader Gibbs. Haury increased his lead as the race went on to easily win his first Crate Sprint feature.
In the Grand Nationals twenty lap feature, the front row was Dominic Alessandro and Jeff Bowling. Bobby Justice started fourth and would take the lead. At the halfway mark it was Justice, Jeff Fade Jr.; Cornel Mentler, John Bennett and Brian Smith. On lap eleven Smith had a shower of sparks down the backstraight, out of the race. This caution would erase the comfortable lead that Bobby Justice had. On the restart it was Jeff Fade Jr. taking the lead and opening up a full front straightaway advantage over Justice. Jeff Fade Jr. cruised to the checkered flag for his fifth Grand Nationals feature win.
Closing out the evening was the thirty lap Modified feature. Kurt Hennings was the polesitter and took the early lead before the first of eight caution flags waved. On the restart it was Hennings with the lead before Kenny Phillips spun into the infield on lap three with Terry Groner being charged.
Hennings would lead the first seven laps through numerous caution flags and restarts. On lap eight, Mike Lawson took the lead. Lawsons lead would also be hampered by yellow flag fever. With just five laps to go it appeared Lawson would be in the winners circle, but Lawson would spin. On this restart, T.J. Stineman took the lead only to have another caution on the following lap. This incident would involve current Modified points leader Kenny Phillips, who would be able to rejoin the race. T. J. Stineman had a strong challenge from Nick Wiery in the final laps but held on for his first Modified feature win of the 2015 season.
