if you cannot bite, never show your teeth

Shards of light flashed through the canopy of the palms, reflecting in the water to cast strange shimmering patterns over Dreadbite’s white legs and belly as her movements agitated the surface. She was not alone for long before an ear flicked at the sound a familiar hoof beats. Instantly, she was both pleased and irritated by the company - and then perplexed by the conflicting feelings that coarsed through her veins. He appeared from the shadows like a predator circling its prey. Crystalline water dripped from the damp ends of her black mane as she raised her head slowly to regard him.

For a moment she was silent after he spoke though there was a mischievous light in her mismatched eyes. “I miss company” she responded in a matter of fact tone and stepped closer to him, the tepid water sloshing around her fetlocks as she went. “You leave me all alone so often yet never bring anyone back for me to play with” , she purred with a pout, reaching out to grab at his mane as if to stop him. If he halted, she would sidle up beside him, if not she match his pace, effectively stopping him from circling her.

“Rude, is what that is” she chastised in a low tone, nipping his neck and hopping away from him. She slung her head over her shoulder, a coy smirk adorning her features. If she could have raised a brow, she would have. “Maybe I should go looking for my own company.”

She was confident he’d know exactly what she was implying.
