Much as Roza blamed the stallion before them for this unfortunate turn of events, she was not and never would be a sadist. Within her breast, her heart was as tender and soft as anyone else’s, and so it was that when Nephilim’s eyes filled with tears, she felt her gut twist and her throat tighten with empathy. Not that she showed it, mind - her face remained the same still, hard mask as she regarded him.

It was only when he opened his mouth amidst spilling tears to address her sister that the blanketed grullo let her mask slip. Her face softened at her sister’s name, and her gaze followed Nephilim’s to look beside her at Rohanne. The mare still stood hunched, her chin tucked into her chest and her ears twisted back into her dark mane; her eyes stared woefully at the ground. The only reaction she gave to being spoken to was the brief shutting of her eyes. Yet, she did not cry; Roza could only imagine that she had cried enough already to have drained her body of all fluid.

Her sister was a husk.

There was a murmur of voices nearby. Roza lifted her eyes to look out at the mare and colt that had been watching them; the duo retreated from their post reluctantly, and Roza watched them for some moments before returning her attention to Nephilim. Her sister would not speak - and would possibly not be ready to speak about the matter for some time - and so she had to be Rohanne’s voice.

“She needs time,” she said quietly, and stared at Nephilim with her chin lifted and an expression that said you have done enough.

They both needed time.
