Barrie Waterfront Birds


Although last night was cold, Kempenfelt Bay remains wide open and there are still lots of birds at Barrie's waterfront. There is some ice in the harbour that might not last, but it is offering some protection to the shiners below. The gull feeding frenzy is still occurring though. This afternoon, there were still hundreds of Herring Gulls and hundreds of Ring-billed Gulls, as well as a few Great Black-backed Gulls. The immature Little Gull was still present at the base of Bayfield Street, but it only had the company on one Bonaparte's Gull, a dramatic shift from a couple of days ago. Either the Bonaparte's Gulls were elsewhere on the Bay while I was there, out of sight, or the deep cold has pushed them south.

There were also eight Double-crested Cormorants at the base of Bayfield Street,
