CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.

SPECIAL ORDER OF THE DAY

On Monday 15 February 2016, Brigadier (Retd) I R Liles OBE handed over the post of Regimental Secretary to Colonel (Retd) J W Denny MBE.

Brigadier Ian Liles assumed the role of Regimental Secretary in 2009 after an Army career of 36 years. In his time as Regimental Secretary, he has guided the Regiment through the dark days of the Op HERRICK casualties, the tragic murder of Fusilier Rigby and the removal of the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers from the Order of Battle, as well as many other challenges.

Brigadier Ian was commissioned into 3rd Fusiliers in 1976, having spent 3 years in the ranks with the First Battalion. Whilst with the 3rd Battalion he served in the UK, Northern Ireland, and Germany and held the appointment of Intelligence Officer and Adjutant. He commanded A Company in 2nd Fusiliers before assuming his SO2 appointment as the Tasking and Coordination Group Liaison Officer to 3 Brigade in Armagh. For this tour he was awarded a MBE.

On promotion to Lieutenant Colonel he spent 8 months in Bosnia as MA to COS UNPROFOR. Between 1995-97 he commanded 7 R IRISH in Belfast for which he was awarded an OBE. Following this he served as SO1 Plans in HQ ARRC, where he saw service in Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo and Serbia. Promoted to Colonel, he served as Deputy Commander 39 Infantry Brigade, Assistant Chief of Staff HQ British Forces Cyprus and Chief of Staff 5th Division. He also spent 7 months in Afghanistan as Director Strategic Plans to the US Corps HQ in Kabul. On promotion to Brigadier he commanded the Multi-National Brigade in Bosnia before assuming the appointment of Defence Attaché in Saudi Arabia.

Married for 34 years to Carol they have a daughter Victoria, who is a Flight Lieutenant in the RAF stationed at RAF Marham. He is also the proud grandfather to two girls; Isobel and Darcy.

The Colonel of the Regiment has added; ‘Ian has been a loyal and dedicated Fusilier for over 40 years. In his last posting he steered the Regiment through some of the greatest challenges it has faced in its 48 year history. His leadership has been inspirational. Few will know quite how much he has done for us; all of us will have been touched by his sense of humour, his compassion and his hands on, no nonsense style. On behalf of the Regiment I would like to formally express my gratitude and wish him and Carol all the very best for a well-earned rest.’
