American Marten would be extremely rare in Simcoe County and especially this far south around Orillia. You mentioned that it was smaller than a house cat which would rule out otter. Are you certain that it was not a mink which would be about that size with a face that looks a bit like a cat. If possible at all, get a photo since I am very interested and have been looking for martin in this area for years. Sometimes but only rarely do trappers catch them in Matchedash along the Severn and in Muskoka but even there they are rare. Replies:
