i bring you the morning, i bring you the sun

and i will love you long
after our bodies
turn to dust

“Do you understand?” she says, locking my attention back on her. It’s dangerous not to acknowledge the end of a lecture, but I’ve found I can get away with tuning most of it out as long as I react to her at the end.

"Yes’m," I say, staring down at her solemnly. Her ears are laced to her head and she glares at me, pissy probably about my greater height. Then she snorts and turns her hindquarters to me to continue grazing. It’s so easy to make her do what I want. Now she’s not watching me, maybe I can—

"You!" I say, voice barely more than a breath as I lock eyes with the stallion I’d met before. A quick glance back proves the red mare is fully intent on ignoring me and I jump down from the rocks, trotting over to him with my little tail flagged. "I need your help," I say. "I want to get up there, but I don’t know how." I toss my dished nose at the great height of the rock wall before looking at him again, intent on my mission to find FatherSound. "Will you help me?"
