GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Someone tell me, tell me I survived.

There's a dreariness to his face, a stricken sadness behind his eye. Something monumental has happened to Pagan, and it was bigger than Abigail or me. I consider this as my mind and body continue to cool, whatever lingering aggression I had for the situation all but gone. Now I'm busy inspecting him, looking for inconsistencies in his speech and body language. I can't find a trap in his offer. Why would he offer me his children if he wanted to fool me later down the road? I couldn't see past it. When he speaks, the stallion is emotional. His tone seems frantic almost, as if he must secure them a home for some giant burden to be lifted from him. For a second, I can relate to that. I can understand the need to unload before taking off. Was he leaving? That was of no concern to me.

I cringe at the word slaves. I knew the feeling -- I had been one to the Lagoon not all that long ago. But to accuse me of harboring something similar in the Prairie proves how little he knows about me or this place. "They will be welcomed into our fold just like anyone else." I say, trying to over correct and drown out the crass venom that spits from Evaline's mouth. I merely stamp a hardened hoof to the ground in agitation when she's at it again. Then I continue to ignore her, a ploy that will drive her more mad than if I scolded her publicly again. "If he's as good as you say he is, it's possible he could hold rank here. We will see."

I take a step forward, snorting briefly before I reach Pagan, extending my nose for a cordial share of breathes, as if to solidify the deal we just discussed. "I take it they are capable enough of finding their way to the Prairie?"
