Caught sight of what I believe to have possibly been a large mountain lion in my back yard. Location is Andover Ma, the property abuts conservation land. The sighting was around 6:00pm, and approx. 70yards from the kitchen window I was opening at the time and from where I spotted the animal. At first I thought it to be a large and very well built dog. As I opened the window, my dog must have gotten scent of it, and she immediately started barking as she does when a strange animal or person is near the house. The animal turned, quickly glanced in the direction of the house, and then bounded into the brush. That is when I saw the animals extremely long tail, and feline like gait. After the sighting, I took the dog to investigate and look for tracks. We did not see any tracks, but we did happen across the remains of a squirrel's tail, minus the body, right in the general area of where the animal was spotted. Interested if it's possible that I saw a cougar in this area, or if anyone local has had a similar experience. Of course, I could have been mistaken at that distance, but I also like to trust my gut.
